General Studies - Communications Specialization, AA&S

Program Description/Purpose: Designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a degree in communications or related fields. Students in the communications specialization may wish to major in the following fields: communication, mass media, radio, telecommunications, or speech.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will produce oral messages in personal, social, academic, and business situations appropriate to the audience, occasion, context, and topic.
  2. Students will use critical thinking skills to demonstrate information literacy in the areas of finding, understanding, and evaluating information and applying, integrating, creating, and sharing information.
  3. Students will analyze how individual and cultural similarities and differences impact the way we create and present messages. 

Transfer Information: Students should consult with their advisor to ensure that they select electives that best prepare them for the specific requirements of their intended transfer university’s program of study. More information can also be found at www.laurelridge.edu/transfer.

Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.
