Networking Specialist, CSC

Program Description/Purpose: The networking specialist career studies certificate provides skills in the use of operating system utilities, directory structures, and computer configurations. Included in this program is the use of network and internet technologies and network design.  Students will learn to analyze hardware and software, troubleshoot issues and be able to make recommendations for improvements.

Occupational Outcomes: Entry-level employment in the field of networking.  IT networking professionals are in high demand and essential to virtually all organizations. IT network admin professionals ensure the flow of data and information is secure and available to enable organizations to operate.  Possible career paths when combined with other experience or degrees are a junior systems administrator, network technician, junior network administrator, or junior network engineer.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate a fundamental level of IT knowledge and skills in data communication, network modes of transmission, and protocols.
  2. Students will use operating systems including networking protocols, enterprise systems management, web server technologies, and cloud computing. 

Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.

Certificate Curriculum


Program Total: 18-19 Credits


*Credit for Certifications can be awarded for these courses: ITN 107  - Personal Computer Hardware & Troubleshooting,  ITN 170  - Linux System Administration, ITN 254   - Virtual Infrastructure: Installation and Configuration.​​​​​

Course credit will be awarded for certifications issued within 5 years of the formal written request by a student. The formal request must include a statement that the student understands that credit for prior learning credit may not transfer to a 2-year college, 4-year college, or university.

1 Students in the Cybersecurity degree program MUST take ITN 100  .

2 Students in the Cybersecurity degree program MUST take ITN 260  .
