Program Description/Purpose: This Career Studies Certificate leads to entry-level employment opportunities in the cybersecurity and networking fields. This curriculum prepares students for introductory IT knowledge and skills and to recognize, prevent and defend against threats to information and information systems. Students are introduced to the basic topics of operating systems, computer hardware, networking concepts, programming, and cybersecurity core topics to be well-prepared and successful in all areas of IT including cybersecurity and networking.

Occupational Outcomes: Entry-level cybersecurity and networking. There is significant demand for employees with cybersecurity and networking backgrounds.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate a fundamental level of IT knowledge and skills in data communication, network modes of transmission and protocols.
Students will demonstrate a fundamental level of IT knowledge and skills in the area of operating systems and networking and recognize threats to information systems.

Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.

Fall Semester

ITN 100 - Introduction to Telecommunications 3 cr. ¹ OR
ITN 101 - Introduction to Network Concepts 3 cr. ¹
ITN 107 - Personal Computer Hardware & Troubleshooting 3 cr. *
ITN 170 - Linux System Administration 3 cr. *

Spring Semester

ITN 254 - Virtual Infrastructure: Installation and Configuration 4 cr. ^{* 2} OR
ITN 260 - Network Security Basics 3 cr. ²
ITP 100 - Software Design 3 cr.
SDV 101 - Orientation to IT Professions 1 cr.

Program Total: 16 - 17 Credits

*Credit for Certifications can be awarded for these courses: ITN 107 - Personal Computer Hardware & Troubleshooting , ITN 170 - Linux System Administration , ITN 254 Virtual Infrastructure: Installation and Configuration .

Course credit will be awarded for certifications issued within 5 years of the formal written request by a student. The formal request must include a statement that the student understands that credit for prior learning may not transfer to a 2-year college, 4-year college, or university.
