Cybersecurity Specialist, CSC

Program Description/Purpose: The Cybersecurity Specialist Career Studies Certificate is designed to provide the skills needed to secure, protect and identify vulnerabilities in a network, including various operating systems and network devices. Emphasis is placed on developing the theoretical, legal, ethical, and practical skills needed to maintain security on mission-critical networking and server systems.

Occupational Outcomes: Mid-level employment in the Cybersecurity field.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will analyze a broadly defined security problem and apply principles of cybersecurity to identify and implement solutions.
  2. Students will analyze the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and its use of asymmetric encryption methodology.
  3. Students will apply security principles and practices to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats.
  4. Students will recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in cybersecurity practice based on industry initiatives, including legal and ethical principles.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 

Students considering the Cybersecurity Specialist Career Studies Certificate are required to successfully complete the Cybersecurity and Networking Foundations Career Studies Certificate or the prerequisite courses (ITN 100  and ITN 260 ).

SPECIAL NOTES:

  • These courses are included within the A.A.S. in Cybersecurity degree, which is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org thus; course credit may not be granted for current holders of industry certifications.

  • Courses are listed by the semester they are usually offered.
  • Course availability in a given semester may vary.
  • You can change the order or number of classes each semester, but taking fewer classes in a semester will mean more semesters to finish the program.
  • Please discuss your plan with your advisor to ensure it meets your academic goals.
