Information Systems Technology, AAS

Program Description/Purpose: The AAS degree program with a major in Information Systems Technology is designed for those who wish to be an Information Systems generalist with knowledge in various areas, such as computer applications, programming, database, web applications, cybersecurity, and networking/cloud support.  Students in the IST degree program are encouraged to also enroll in one or more of the technology-related Career Studies Certificates (CSC). CSC programs are available in specific areas of concentration such as applied cloud computing, cybersecurity/networking foundations, networking, and software development. The courses in the CSC programs can be applied as approved IT electives which are a part of the IST degree.

Occupational Outcomes: Possible occupations for IST degree graduates include computer operations, help desk support, computer programmer, programmer analyst, PC support technician, and network support technician.  The IST program will prepare you for entry-level positions, or if you’re currently in the technology field and wish to increase or update your knowledge and skills.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will effectively communicate both orally and in writing, with subject matter experts and key stakeholders, to understand their processes and to help formulate technology-based business solutions.
  2. Students will use critical thinking in problem-solving programming logic by utilizing contemporary software development applications for a variety of programming languages and website design.
  3. Students will analyze and understand database fundamentals.
  4. Students will use operating systems to include networking protocols, enterprise systems management, web server technologies, cybersecurity, and cloud computing. 

Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.

Program Total: 65 Credits


1 Students in the Cybersecurity degree program MUST take ITN 100 . 

2 Students are encouraged to satisfy the Approved IT Electives by completing one or more Career Studies Certificates (CSC).  The following CSCs are available:  Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, CSC , Cloud Computing, CSC , Cybersecurity and Networking Foundations, CSC , Immersive Technology, CSC , Networking Specialist, CSC  and Software Development, CSC . See the list of specific courses with the CSCs in consultation with your advisor. Upon graduation, students must also formally complete an “Application for Graduation” for both the degree and applicable Career Studies Certificates.

3 Students in the IST degree program should also enroll in the Technology Essentials CSC, which are required core courses in the IST degree.
