Program Description/Purpose: The Technical Studies Associate in Applied Science Degree is designed to provide a broad foundation of general education and technological knowledge, along with a concentration in a technical field as identified by local industry needs, that will prepare the graduate to enter or advance in technical fields upon graduation.
Additional Information: The Technical Studies Degree will use one or more existing certificates or career studies certificates with additional courses to create a coherent plan of study for a total of 60 - 69 credits. Experiential credit, credit for prior learning, internship credit, independent study, directed study for credit, and/or apprenticeship credit may be used. The Chief Academic Officer or designee will approve the Technical Studies Degree to ensure a coherent plan of study.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Communicate technical information in written, oral, and media formats.
- Collaborate effectively in teams to improve productivity and ensure the quality of product or process outcomes.
- Explain how the field’s key principles shape the application of technical knowledge within the industry or career field.
- Apply career-specific technical knowledge to problem-solve and resolve challenges and issues in practice.
- Use appropriate safety measures within the field.
Transfer Information: This program is not intended for students seeking to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree. Students planning to transfer should consult their academic advisors and their intended transfer institutions for specific direction in program and course selection.

General Education
Minimum of 15 General Education credits required including at least 3 credits from each of the categories listed - Communications: 3 credits
- Humanities: 3 credits
- Social/Behavioral Sciences: 3 credits
- Mathematics or Natural Science: 3-4 credits
- One additional course from any of the above categories: 3-4 credits
Content Skills and Knowledge
At least one (1) approved certificate or career studies certificate must be completed with additional technical electives to create a coherent plan of study. Technical electives may include experiential credit, credit for prior learning, internship credit, independent study, directed study for credit, and/or apprenticeship credit. Please work with your advisor to ensure that course selections align with your professional goals.
