Program Description/Purpose: The Career Studies Certificate in Computer Science prepares students with the core knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level position in the career field of computer science (CS). This certificate is designed for individuals seeking to transition into the field of computer science or seeking to enter into the field prior to achieving a full degree. All CSC courses feed into the A.S. in Computer Science and transfer under Transfer Virginia initiative.
Occupational Outcomes: Entry-level employment in the field of computer science, such as a entry-level software developer and/or computer scientist, junior programmer/analyst, or other related entry-level positions, or systems support specialist.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will apply fundamental principles and methods of Computer Science to a wide range of applications.
- Students will effectively communicate both orally and in writing with subject-area experts in business/industry to understand their processes and to help formulate computer-based solutions.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the software design process and a basic understanding of programming language syntax.
| Course credit may be awarded for industry certifications per the Credit For Prior Learning Guide. It is important for students to understand that credit for prior learning credit may not transfer to another 2-year college, 4-year college, or university. |
