Possible occupations for graduates include computer operator, help desk support, computer programmer, programmer analyst, PC support technician, and network support technician.
The AAS degree program with a major in Information Systems Technology is designed for people who wish to be an Information Systems generalist with knowledge in various areas, such as computer applications, programming, database, web applications, cybersecurity and networking/cloud support.
Students in the IST degree program are encouraged to also enroll in one or more of the technology-related Career Studies Certificates (CSC). CSC programs are available in specific areas of concentration such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, database administration, networking, software development, and web development. The courses in the CSC programs can be applied as approved IT electives which are a part of the IST degree.
Program Requirements: Students must possess sound analytical and problem-solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills and must have good interpersonal skills. These skills are an integral part of the information system technology (IST) curriculum. The curriculum includes technical courses in information technology, business-related areas, general education, and electives. Instruction is centered on theoretical concepts and practical, hands-on applications key to success in the information technology field. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with their advisor in planning their programs and selecting electives. Upon satisfactory completion of the program the graduate will be awarded the associate of applied science degree with a major in information systems technology.
Special Note (Bridge Courses): This program is designed for those students who have completed an introductory computer applications course at the high school level. A student who has not completed the recommended high school course may enroll in the IST program by taking ITE 115 Introduction to Computer Applications and Concepts .
