Financial Aid Campus Bookstore Purchases
Financial aid purchases are only possible with a valid student ID number and proper identification during the specified charging periods - posted each semester at laurelridge.edu/fabooks. The College reserves the right to restrict or limit purchases of certain items or to restrict students from using financial aid in cases of suspected fraud or misuse of funds. All refunds of materials must be done prior to dropping classes to ensure proper credit to the financial aid account. If you drop your classes first, you will not be able to return your materials. All transactions require the original receipt. Any changes made, including adding or dropping classes, within the student information system allow 24 hours prior to purchasing your books - otherwise the bookstore is unable to utilize your financial aid.
Intellectual Property Rights
Laurel Ridge Community College adheres to the Virginia Community College System’s (VCCS) policy on intellectual property. The VCCS Intellectual Property Policy determines ownership rights and responsibilities regarding intellectual property produced by a student and/or an employee of the VCCS. This policy is subject to applicable law and is consistent with the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) Draft Guidelines for the Development of Patent and Copyright Policies and Procedures by State Supported Institutions of Higher Education of May 6, 1987. Although the VCCS might legally claim ownership of all intellectual property created by or for it, this policy exercises that right more narrowly in order to encourage creativity.
In accordance with VCCS policy, all copyrightable or patentable material belongs to the creator when done independently of Laurel Ridge Community College or if completed with only incidental use of Laurel Ridge Community College resources as defined by Section 12.0.3, subsection B of the VCCS Intellectual Property Policy. In cases of College-sponsored creations or anything done with “substantial” or “significant” use of College resources, Laurel Ridge Community College retains claims on such intellectual property as outlined in Sections 12.0.3 and 12.0.3.0 of the VCCS Intellectual Property Policy. If employees or students have disagreements about intellectual property rights, they may utilize the employee and student grievance procedure. While Laurel Ridge Community College has implemented its Intellectual Property Rights Policy and it is in place, there have been no incidents in which it has had to be used. To read the entire VCCS policy can be found at https://go.boarddocs.com/va/vccs/Board.nsf/Public# in the Policies tab under Section 12.
