Program Description/Purpose: This career studies certificate allows the student to earn their Certification as a Nurse Aide, gain employment and experience in the healthcare field, and take courses toward earning a Practical Nursing Certificate or AAS in Nursing. Upon completion of NUR 27 and successfully passing the state certification exam, students will be employable as a CNA in various healthcare settings. Additional credits earned in the PCT certificate are applied as general education credits and/or prerequisites for applying to Laurel Ridge Community College Nursing programs. Credits transfer to the Practical Nursing Certificate and AAS in Nursing degree programs.
Admission Requirements: Students are required to have a background check and a drug screen. Failure to obtain either will prevent the student from continuing the course. Students must also complete health and physical forms.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will practice safe nurse aide care that minimizes the risk of harm to client populations.
- Students will achieve a passing score on their first attempt at the written and skills portions of the NNAAP certification exam.
- Students completing all requirements for the Patient Care Certificate will transition into a Nursing program.
Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.
