General Studies - Recreation and Outdoor Leadership Specialization with Therapeutic Recreation Focus, AA&S

Program Description/Purpose: Allows students the flexibility of moving into accredited transfer programs in Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Recreation, and Recreation Therapy. Also beneficial to students moving on to programs in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Physical/Occupational Therapy, and various medical fields.

Occupational Outcomes: Adaptive Leader, Therapeutic Recreation Aid, Special Needs Assistant, Senior Living Recreation Coordinator, and other adaptive/therapeutic fields.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate effective communication skills and use recreation professionalism standards during each of their two 32-hour practicum experiences. 
  2. Students will recall knowledge related to the history, leadership, programming, and outdoor skills involved in preparing for a career in the recreation industry.

Courses are displayed under the semester in which they are regularly offered and are recommended to be taken in this sequence to ensure timely graduation. It is possible that a course shown in a particular semester may not be offered due to low enrollment or other factors.
