Program Description/Purpose: This program provides students with a thorough understanding of software design and development. Students will learn how to create applications using multiple programming languages.  This program prepares the student to design and implement traditional/legacy stand-alone and client-server applications using procedural and object-oriented development techniques. 

Occupational Outcomes: Entry-level positions in software design and development.  When combined with experience and possible completion of the IST degree program, students earning this CSC can find employment opportunities in a number of areas like software developer trainee, junior programmer/analyst, or other related entry-level positions.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will comprehend software and systems design with a focus on Event-Driven application development using the Visual Basic.NET programming language.
  2. Students will comprehend software and systems design with a focus on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) application development using the Java programming language.

Software Development Career Studies Certificate Curriculum Requirements:

Student Development (1 cr)


Program Total: 21-22 Credits


Credit for Certification can be awarded for this course: ITP 120 .

Course credit will be awarded for certifications issued within 5 years of the formal written request by a student. The formal request must include a statement that the student understands that credit for prior learning credit may not transfer to a 2-year college, 4-year college, or university.

 

It is highly recommended that students consult with their academic advisor to select the most appropriate course for their curriculum and/or transferability to another college.
